Braswell Family Farms Employees Serve at The Victory Ride

Riding, Cooking, and Serving to Cure Cancer

We, at Braswell Family Farms, had an “eggcellent” time serving riders, survivors and fellow volunteers at the V Foundation for Cancer Research’s Victory Ride to Cure Cancer. The ride took place on Saturday, May 18 and was a one-day charity cycling event benefiting the V Foundation in Raleigh, N.C.

The day began at 3:30 a.m. with the “Braswell Breakfast Team,” a group of six cooking eggs and making breakfast burritos for all the riders, survivors, and volunteers. The team made more than 500 burritos to help fuel the crowd prior to the race.

Throughout the course, more than 700 hard boiled “egg pops” were placed at rest stops. The rest stops allowed riders to hydrate and refuel on their 10, 30, 60, or 100-mile ride.

While some employees volunteered and served, others participated in the ride to honor or support their family members and friends who have dealt with cancer. David Holloman, John Watson, Jonathan LaFoe and Lina Pimental each rode ten miles. Irineo “Eddie” Gorostieta and Martian Bastian rode 30 miles, and David Antonio was a champion and rode a total of 60 miles!

Trey Braswell, President of Braswell Family Farms, had the opportunity to address all riders before they took off on their rides. “So many on our team at Braswell Family Farms have either suffered from cancer themselves or had a close friend or family member who has. Braswell Family Farms is so grateful to partner with the V Foundation and have an opportunity to give back with our time, treasure and talent to push back on the darkness of cancer.”

Leading up to the Victory Ride, representatives from Braswell Family Farms and the V Foundation visited the three cancer centers that the Victory Ride benefits - Duke Cancer Institute, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and Wake Forest Baptist Health Comprehensive Cancer Center. At each center, we talked with researchers and doctors to thank them for their work and raise awareness about the Victory Ride. We also met with cancer patients, offering encouraging words, fun gifts, and egg coupons.

We are so grateful for the whole-hearted efforts of our employees and the opportunity to serve our community. If you feel led, please consider learning more about the Victory Ride to Cure Cancer at www.thevictoryride.org. Donations for the ride are being accepted through June 18 at www.jimmyv.org
