Meet Casey Proctor

Braswell Family Spotlight

Meet Casey Proctor, our Live Production Intern this summer. Casey is a rising senior at North Carolina State University where she studies Poultry Science.

This summer, Casey is shadowing our Pullet Supervisor. Pullet is another name for an immature hen that is not able to lay eggs yet. We raise our pullets from a day old until they are old enough to be moved to one of our hen houses. Casey begins her day by first checking the feed for the pullets, then gathering a plan based off which farms need to be visited and what each farm may need. At the farms, Casey helps check the lighting and ammonia levels to ensure a healthy environment for the birds, as well as test them for any disease as need be.

Casey has always loved animals and agriculture. In high school, Casey spent her time participating in FFA Career Development Events like Poultry and Livestock Judging and attended the Poultry Science Summer Institute with N.C. State Extension.

When asked what her favorite part of the summer has been, Casey responded “Everything!” She enjoys the hands on experience and working for a farm close to where she grew up.

In her free time, Casey’s eyes are still on her target goals. And by target, we mean sporting clays. Casey won the North Carolina Ladies Sporting Clays State Championship this year!

As for her eggs, Casey likes them baked into a fresh, strawberry cake. Yum!

Thank you for your time, Casey! We wish you the best in the upcoming semester and in your future career!
